  • 1956: Born in Brooklyn, raised in Vermont
  • 1974: Earned a karate black belt. He won many regional tournaments, including the 1976 YMCA mid-Atlantic Black Belt Heavyweight title
  • He has lived in Israel since 1979

First American to earn ordination by Israel’s head rabbis. Jacobs holds a PhD (equivalency) from Israel’s Dep. of Religion & completed Rabbinic attorney studies.

  • 1988 – 2007: Emissary of Lubavitcher Rebbe & Chabad Campus chaplain at Tel Aviv University
  • 1992 – 2005: Concurrently, served as chaplain, staff-officer, Major, in the Israel Prison Service
  • 2005: Retired; published first book on subject: Coffee Melts Bars – My Israeli Prison Career
  • 2006: Promoted to Eighth Degree Black Belt Master Instructor
